Yokosuka Middle School welcomes newcomers for SY 2026-27

Yokosuka Middle School proudly welcomed new students and families during two "New to Yokosuka Middle School" orientation sessions designed to help students transition confidently into the new school year.

Led by the Yokosuka Middle School Student Ambassadors and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) members, the orientations provided families with an overview of daily life at YMS. Students and parents learned about class schedules, elective course offerings, extracurricular clubs, and school activities while also learning about the school's administrative team and student support staff. The sessions gave families an opportunity to ask questions, become familiar with available resources, and begin building connections within the school community.

Following the presentations, the Student Ambassadors and NJHS members guided families on tours throughout all three levels of the campus, introducing them to classrooms, common areas, and important student spaces. The tours allowed new students to become familiar with the building before the first day of school while giving families a firsthand look at the learning environment.

The event also served as a community resource fair, bringing together organizations that support military-connected students and families. Representatives from Fleet and Family Support Center, the School Meal Program, MWR Teen Center, the American Red Cross, Emergency Management, the USO, and the Yokosuka Middle School PTO were available to answer questions and provide information about the services they offer. By bringing school personnel and community partners together in one location, the orientation created a convenient "one-stop shop" where families could access valuable information and establish connections before the school year began.

Michelle Morales, Yokosuka Middle School's Ambassador Advisor, Pacific Student Transition Coordinator, and National Junior Honor Society Advisor, expressed her appreciation for the students' dedication and leadership.

"I am incredibly proud to lead this outstanding group of Student Ambassadors and NJHS members," said Morales. "Their willingness to volunteer their time, welcome new families, and serve as positive role models truly reflects the character and leadership we strive to develop at Yokosuka Middle School. Together, they created a welcoming experience that helped new students and families feel connected to our school community before the first day of classes."

Yokosuka Middle School extends its sincere appreciation to the Student Ambassadors, NJHS members, staff, volunteers, administrators, and community partners whose commitment and teamwork made the orientations a tremendous success and ensured every new family received a warm Dragon welcome.
